Sayings of Modern Psychologists and The Quran and Sunnah

(PROPHETIC TRADITION) SINCE 1400 A.H ON PSYCHOLOGICAL TREATMENT

1-William James, the American scientists:
says:”Faith is the greatest cure for anxiety”
– Allah says: ” It is those who believe and
confuse not their beliefs with wrong –that
are (truly) in security, for they are on the
(right) guidance.”
2-Bryl, the psychological analyst states:
”The religious person never suffers from
 any psychological ailment”.
Allah says:”Those who believe, and whose
hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance
of God : for without doubt in the remem-
brance of God do hearts find satisfaction”
3-Nehry Link, the American scientist, mentions in his book Back to Faith that :
‘Those who go toplaces of worship have a better and a stronger personality than the
others’.
-Allah says:’Whoever works righteousness,
man or woman, and has Faith, verily, to
him We will give a new Life , a life that is
good and pure , and We will bestow on
such their reward according to the best of
 their actions.”
-Allah says: ”If the people of the towns
had But believed and feared God, We
should indeed have opened out to them
(all kinds of) blessings from heaven and
 earth;”
4-Dr.Alex Caryl in his book  Let Go of
Anxiety And Start Living claims that :
” The ones who could not let go of their
anxiety die at a younger age”.
In an article published in the magazine
The Readers Digest he also mentions that
“Prayer is the strongest power charge one
 can generate ”
Allah says:”The believers must (eventually)
win through, * Those who humble them-
selves in their prayers”.
5-Dr.Thomas Haylson says ”Prayer is the
most important tool known so far capable
of spreading peace and tranquility in the
self of people.
The Prophet (Peace and Grace be Upon Him)
used to say to Belal at prayers time:
” Relieve us with prayer, Belal ”.
6-The French physician Alex Caryl has
noticed that prayer produces a kind of
spiritual activity for quick healing
The Prophet advised an angry person to
perform ablution. He said: ” If you feel
angry, perform ablution (Wudu)”.

From the above mentioned we find that the Glorious Quran preceded psychologists in showing the importance of faith in achieving psychological peace for the following reasons:
1- It increases man’s self confidence.
2- It increases man’s patience and ability to bear life difficulties.
3- It increases sense of self safety and security, in addition to feeling of happiness.

To achieve psychological peace, we need to thoroughly learn about all aspects man’s psychology: its stages, development, and weaknesses. In addition to the various psychological ailments that afflict it, and its senses and feelings. This will lead us to the miracle of the Quran which protects and care for the human psychology.
The Quran is deeply interested in the human psychology where the secret of man’s strength lies, and from which reformation starts and ends. The comprehensive Quranic concern with the human psychology provided correct knowledge about it, as well as means of its protection and cure. The Creator of the human soul is the One who knows all its hidden secrets; Allah says:” (God) knows of (the tricks) that deceive with the eyes, and that the hearts (of men) conceal.”[Surah Ghafer (The Believer), verse 19].He also says: ”It was We Who created man, and We know what dark suggestions his soul makes to him: for We are nearer to him than (his) jugular vein”.
The main objective of the Quran’s concern with the human psychology is to guide man himself. Thus, in order to achieve his goals, man needs first to discover his own self to be able to discipline and reform his conduct and behavior. Aspects of the miracle and wonder of the Quran in dealing with the human psychology include the following:

1- The Quran mentions all that is related to man’s thoughts, fears, and feelings of joy and sadness, as well as confusion, anxiety and reassurance.
2- The Quran guides us to the problems and ailments of man’s psychology, in addition to aspects of its strength and activity, as well as to the forms of treatment and their soundness.
3- The Quran states all kinds of psychological defects such as: hypocrisy, envy, jealousy, pride, anger, negligence, greed, etc. and their cures.
4- The Quran deals with the characteristics of human psyche based on their inclinations as follows:

• Weakness: Allah says ”It is God Who created you in a state of (helpless) weakness” [Surah Al-Rum (The Roman Empire), verse 54] He also says ”For man was created weak (in flesh)” [Surah Al-Nisaa (The Women), verse 28]
• Stinginess: Allah says ”And let not those who covetously withhold of the gifts which God hath given them of His Grace, think that it is good for them”[Surah Al-i-Imran (The Family of Imran) verse 180]
• Desire: Allah says ”Fair in the eyes of men is the love of things they covet”[Surah Al-i-Imran (The Family of Imran) verse 14]
• Ignorance: Allah says in His Book ”But man undertook it; he was indeed unjust and foolish ” [ Surah Al-Ahzab (The Confederates) verse 72]

The Quran also mentions the features of human psychology. In addition to its natural dispositions, there are characteristics and forms that identify it. There is also the devilish inclinations that one can only get rid of by Allah’ Will and divine guidance.
